What is nose aesthetics (Rhinoplasty)?
Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a nose job is an aesthetic surgery to change the shape or size of the nose and in certain cases improve its function due to any trauma or birth defects.
What happens during a Rhinoplasty procedure?
The procedure is performed under general anaesthetic. The operation duration takes approximately 3 hours, however varies depending on the current condition of the nose and the procedure to be performed.
Following a rhinoplasty regular follow ups are required at the 1st month, 3rd, 6th and 12th month. Our highly experienced surgeons will ensure your nose looks as similar as possible to the patient’s wishes.
What is the recovery time?
Following the operation, it is normal to experience some pain, swelling, edema and bruises on your nose until it settles down. The bruises and swellings return to their original state within 10 days. But edema can last up to 3 months. Depending on the type of surgery, a tiny scar may remain on the side of the nose. The scar may disappear or reduce depending on the healing process. However, in a closed rhinoplasty no scar remains outside the nose as the incisions are made from inside the nose. Following a rhinoplasty, a decreased sense of smell for a short time is normal.
What should be taken into consideration for rhinoplasty?
Blood thinners should be stopped, head should be kept elevated when lying down, the plaster protecting the nose should be kept dry and teeth should be brushed carefully. All activities should be avoided for 10 days, traumas should be avoided, heavy sports should not be done for at least 3 weeks. Also, glasses should not be used for a while to prevent pressure on the nose bridge. Proper diet and plenty of sleep accelerates the healing process after a rhinoplasty.
